AMERICAN ACTOR Morgan Freeman has responded to accusations of sexual harassment made against him by eight women.
The 80-year-old’s alleged misconduct was originally reported by CNN. The news outlet’s entertainment reporter Chloe Melas, who co-authored the article on Freeman, has claimed that she is a victim of the Shawshank Redemption star’s inappropriate behaviour.
One production assistant who worked with the actor on Going in Style said he attempted to lift up her skirt, asked if she was wearing underwear and touched her repeatedly.
Another woman said: “If I ever passed him he would stare at me in an awkward way, would look me up and down, sometimes stopping and just staring. “One time he stopped, looked me up and down as I walked into a room of people, and everyone burst out laughing. And I literally froze, feeling very uncomfortable, and one of the people in the office said ‘Don’t worry, that’s just Morgan.'”
In a statement, Freeman apologised to “anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected”.
He said: “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy.”
Freeman is the most recent of a string of Hollywood figures to be accused of sexual harassment or assault in recent months.
Claims of sexual assault and harassment made by a number of women against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, propelled the #MeToo campaign into the mainstream.
Weinstein is due to surrender himself to US police today.
He is facing arrest after the conclusion of a grand jury investigation. Weinstein denies having non-consensual sex with anyone. SOURCE: http://www.voice-online.co.uk/article/
